How it works
Drop your video in. WavyVid reads its length, resolution, and bitrate right in your browser — nothing uploads anywhere.
It works out the exact bitrate (and resolution, if needed) that lands as close to your target size as possible without wrecking quality.
Download the compressed file, or share it straight from the result screen. Original stays on your device the whole time.
When you'd use this
- You need to hit a specific, unusual size limit that none of the platform-specific presets exactly match.
- You're archiving footage and want a smaller file to save storage space without going through a full editor.
- You just want a quick general-purpose compressor without picking a platform-specific version of the tool.
Frequently asked questions
How does WavyVid decide the settings?
It probes your file's duration and resolution, reserves a slice of the target size for audio, calculates the video bitrate from what's left, and downscales resolution first if the bitrate would otherwise look bad — all before the actual encode starts.
What if my target size isn't realistic for this video?
You'll get a clear message telling you so, along with the smallest size that would actually look acceptable — no silently-ruined output.
Is there a limit on how large a file I can upload?
No hard limit, but files over 500MB will trigger a heads-up about processing time and memory use before starting.
Does this work offline?
Yes, once the page and its WebAssembly engine have loaded, you can disconnect entirely and it'll keep working.
How is this different from the platform-specific compress tools?
Same engine underneath — this version just skips the preset target and lets you type in any exact size, useful when a platform or form has a limit that doesn't match one of the common presets.
