Dead air — long pauses, "thinking" silences, gaps between takes — is the first thing most editors cut, and doing it by hand is tedious. This detects silence automatically using adjustable sensitivity and a minimum pause length, so short natural pauses stay untouched while long dead air gets trimmed down to a clean, brief gap.
Frequently asked questions
Will this cut into my speech?
No — cuts are padded (about 100-150ms kept on each side of a detected silence) specifically to avoid clipping the start or end of a word, and you see the full preview before exporting anything.
What if it cuts something I wanted to keep?
Adjust the sensitivity threshold or minimum pause length sliders — the preview recalculates instantly since the audio is only decoded once, so you can tune it until the cut list looks right before exporting.
Does this work on background music?
The detector looks for genuine silence (very low volume), not just quiet moments — a music bed under dialogue generally stays well above the silence threshold and won't get flagged.
Can I use this on audio-only files too?
